Where to Start

Let’s become smarter!  We have organized the lessons under six primary categories

  • Budgeting
  • Investing
  • Insurance
  • Credit Cards
  • Debt
  • Taxes

BUDGETING

Here we learn how to track what we receive (income or revenue) and what spend (expenses and investments).  We think this is a good place to begin.

INVESTING

If you spend money on something that you expect to be worth more money in the future, that is investing.  Buy low and sell high is simple to say, but not as easy to follow.  We will learn about risk, setting goals, and sticking to what we know.

INSURANCE

Health, auto, homeowners, umbrella policies, term life, whole life . . . .  This is a big topic and it is important.  We will focus on the use of insurance to protect against risk.

CREDIT CARDS

Credit cards are everywhere.  From the convenience of online shopping to every day dining.  Together, let’s learn the benefits and risks of these useful tools.

DEBT

Money today, in return for paying it back over time, with interest.  You can use this to your advantage, but only if you use it wisely.  Learn the basics of how different kinds of debt work, and let us share our thoughts on what some good and bad uses of debt are.

TAXES

Income tax, sales tax, property tax, brackets, AMT. . .  Taxes are the largest single expense for many people.  We will take a very basic look at the different types of taxes.  Even if you get professional help preparing your taxes (which we think is a good idea), you should understand the basic concepts.
